Can't make e-texts reflowable

To make an e-text (e.g. from Gutenberg) reflowable, I usually:
1. replace double line-ends with e.g. ##
2. replace remaining single line-ends with a space
3. replace ## with double line-ends, to re-create paragraphs

With the current release of Textpad, stage 1 above usually works OK. The second Search/Replace appears to start off OK, but it never completes. The screen sometimes blanks out, Textpad is using 50% CPU and has to be killed off from Task Mgr. It may work OK on short texts but on a text of e.g. 500k it always fails. The first replace is typically 2-3000 instances but the 2nd may be 10s of thousands and this seems to be the cause of the problem.
I've tried turning off Undos but I can't see any other option which would influence this behaviour.
Any thoughts appreciated,

bob

Have you tried, with word wrap on and with all text selected,
Edit | Reformat
?

You clever thing!
That worked brilliantly and - more or less - instantaneously.

Thanks a lot,
