unable to read 1.5 gig file

I have a 64 bit xp machine and am unable to read a 1.5 gig txt file. I have over 30 gig free disk space. On a 32 bit xp machine I'm not having any problems. Could someone explain what's going on>

What happens?
30gb free is not that much these days.... You might be out of swap space.
What is your paging file size? What happened exactly?
I have only ever seen issues opening 2gb+ text files on a network and/or saving them.
