Document Selector highlight jumps when a new file is opened

I typically keep a lot of files (100) open and flip around in the Document Selector to find them. Since updating to 5.4.2 I notice that the spot on the selector (the file that's highlighted) changes whenever I open a new file. The selector jumps up to the first page. This is not such a big deal but it's annoying when I then have to search through the selector list for the file I just opened.
My suggestion (and how I believe it was handled previously): open the new file and highlight that one in the Document Selector.
