"Find in Files" to work with Zip folders

Post by thm »

It's been a while now since Windows supported viewing zip files as folders natively.

It would be really useful if TextPad's "Find in Files" function would recognise a zip file as a folder, and search it just the same.

Where I work, a given build's source is normally available as a zip file,
and is only a few MB in size (about 1/5th of the original). Unpacking
it is a pain without an archiver [Windows native support is ridiculously slow at this, taking several minutes], but it would be realy useful if TP
could search these directly.

As an example, DepecheView v1.3.9 can load a 4.5MB zip file
containing about 22MB of source files in literally about 1-2 seconds.
And subsequent searching is lightening quick. Now, OK DV is just
a viewer (hence not a competitor to TP), but it illustrates my point.

My favourite Mac OS X text editor, BBEdit, has recently added an option to work within text files and it's genuinely very useful.
Running TextPad 5.4 on Windows XP SP3 and on OS X 10.7 under VMWare or Crossover.
