Textpad corrupting files saved in VirtualBox

I use Oracle Virtualbox v4.0.12 (free desktop virtualisation). I have a Virtual Machine running XP, using a shared folder on the host machine. Quite often, when saving files edited by TextPad (v5.4.2) the files become corrupt. If opened in Notepad for example, you can see Texpad had duplicated lines and/or appended part of the file to the end. Anyone else encountered this, or have a fix/workaround?
