i THINK that i used textpad (perhaps on another machine) where a 'group' of selected files showed in the left document selector window but they were NOT open in the main editing window until i chose one.

i tried setting my copy of 5.2 up that way, i have the document selector showing, but when i select 2 or more files and tell textpad to open them then they all open rather than being closed until the one i wish to edit 1st is selected.

am i remembering wrong or do i have a preference set that is causing an issue.

All the files in the Document Selector are in fact open. Do you mean you don't want them to be displayed until you select one? If you can see more than one document at a time, click the maximize button on one of the document windows. Does that help?

i think you hit it. just that is the appearance i was looking for.
