I am having trouble customizing my toolbar or creating a new toolbar. All seems to be fine until I close textpad and reopen and all my changes are gone. I am running textpad 5.4.2, windows 7 and do not have admin rights.

There may be some issues with Windows 7 and settings. I have had problems I do not understand. But basics first:
Did you make your changes with all TP instances closed?
Then close TP
Then open

You make TP toolbar changes from within TP so I couldn't have all instances closed. At first I only had the one I was working in open and the changes stayed in place until I closed and reopened TP.
When I lost the changes I tried again and kept that instance of TP open so I wouldn't lose them again. But while working I launched additional instances and the changes were not in those.
Hope that makes sense.

Sorry for the confusion. Of course I meant first close all instances and then open a new instance to make your changes.
At this point I can only suggest reinstalling. Out of curiosity, did you recently use Windows update to update your graphics card? Something similar happened to me when I did that a couple of days ago. Resolved by going back.

To my knowledge I have not done anything with windows update unless it was an automatic update. This is a work computer and I don't have admin rights so I may just try to live with it rather than call our help desk for a reinstall. Hate to alert them to any incompatibilities with Windows 7 for fear that they'll disapprove the software altogether!

You know best here. But I think there are issues with Windows 7 that go beyond Textpad.
I just had a large amount of unsaved text (on Textpad) and then tried to copy and paste a number from another program into an e-mail reply in Thunderbird.
The result was that the unsaved material in Text Pad was placed into the e-mail and froze the system and also changed a number of settings in Thunderbird.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Wow that sounds very bizarre. I've had a hard time adjusting to Windows 7 but nothing quite that strange. Thanks for your suggestions - appreciate the sympathy!
