Can't edit preferences

How the heck does the preferences editor work? I am trying to change the default encoding but no amount of clicking seems to have any effect. All I see is a gray bar left of ANSI/DOS/UTF-8. No document is open. How does this work???

What you are describing is not what you should be seeing. I think we will need more information to be helpful.

Operating system?
screen-shot?
TP version?

Haha, I know, it's not funny to you. But I don't know how you attach an image either. In fact I don't remember seeing one at least recently.

And, sorry to say, I personally have no clue from the other information you provided. But there is hope! The regulars are very much more knowledgable than I am and you are not likely to have long to wait.

Try the latest version of TextPad 5.4.2 from our web site below, and then let us know if the problem still occurs after that:
