Cannot assign custom key to "Record Macro"

I have always used CTL-ALT-R as a custom keystroke to record a macro, and it does not work on v5 and higher on my system. It does work on v 4.7.

I cannot bind the record macro to any other keystroke combination either. I have to go to the menu strip to record and stop recording.

That is the ONLY one that does not bind. All other commands, so far as I can tell, are bindable.

Odder, it seems specific to my main machine. I have an old Dell laptop that works fine, and I have tested other machines as well.

Any ideas on this?

I was able to assign Ctrl+Alt+R to the MacroRecord command in addition to the default key binding of Ctrl+Shift+R. In other words, I can now use either keystroke.

Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say you "cannot bind" the command to another keystroke? Does TextPad save the keybinding but not execute it? Does TextPad not save it? Or can you not type Ctrl+Alt+R in the Press new shortcut key field in the Preferences dialog at all?

In the last-named case, perhaps Ctrl+Alt+R has already been assigned as a shortcut key to an application in Windows. You can try running Hotkey Detective 2 or Shortcut Key Explorer to find out what is has been assigned to.

First, let me say that I meant CTL-SHIFT-R, not CTL-ALT-R. Small detail, but just wanted to be clear.

The CTL-SHIFT-R shows up in the list of keyboard shortcuts in the Configuration/Preferences/Keyboard/Macros just like it's supposed to, and also shows up on the main menu under Macros/Record. But when I try to use the keystrokes, nothing happens. I used to get a little glyph of a cassette tape indicating that I was recording a macro, but now nothing. The only way I can record a macro is by using the button on the menu strip.

It's not just CTL-SHIFT-R. I have not found any keystoke or keystroke combination that will kick off recording a macro. It's like that one particular operation cannot be assigned.

If I roll back to version 4.7.3, the keystroke combination DOES work. Anything version 5 or greater, not any more. But, it *used* to work on v5 (at least, I never noticed that it didn't, and in the time I have been using v5 I would think that I have recorded a macro or two). I do not know what changed. I've removed/reinstalled, etc.

And FINALLY, if I run Textpad 5.3.1 in a virtual machine that is hosted on the machine giving me the problem, I CAN use the keystroke combo. It works fine, in the VM. Pretty perplexing.

I tried that ShortcutKeyExplorer, and it did not find anything.
