Tabs and One Instance of Textpad Question

It's probably just me but I cannot seem to get the version of TextPad that I'm using to have only one instance running and then double click another file from my desktop, (or anywhere for that matter), and have the new file open in another tab in that single instance.
For the sake of simplicity, consider that all the files that I'm opening have a .TXT extension and are in fact text files. The version of TextPad that I'm using is 5.4.2 and my O/S is Windows XP32 SP3.
As I said, it's probably that I've missed a checkbox somewhere and would appreciate any assistance in finding out how blind I can be

This check box should be what you're looking for:
Configure > Preferences > General > Allow multiple instances to run

Thanks for that..but I've got that already checked. I also have "Allow Multiple Files on the Command Line" unchecked. Not matter which combination of the two I've tried so far, I have not been able to only have one running instance of TextPad and every new file that is associated with it to open in a new tab in that running instance.
It is always instantiating a new instance of TextPad in a new window. Go figure...

"Allow multiple files on the command line" shouldn't be relevant.
What you want is for "Allow multiple instances to run" to be cleared, that is not ticked. But if you've already tried that and still get multiple instances running, then I'm not sure what else you can try.

Yep, I've tried it both ways and just tried it again. Still not working. I guess the next step is to uninstall completely and then re-install it. I wonder if it has anything to do with the replace Notepad feature of the app.
Regardless, I'll give it a try and post the results here. Thanks for the help by the way, much appreciated
