Shortcuts and macros

Hi
I need some help on macros.
I recently upgraded to version 5.4.2. In the older version - I think it was 4.7.3 - it was possible to associate keyboard shortcuts like "ctrl+1" to my home made macros, but I can't find that feature in the new version. Now I have to type "alt+m", and then "1". And if I want to run the macro twice, I have to repeat it all, or use "ctrl+F7", and specify the macro, I want to run more than once
In the older version I could just hold "ctrl" down, and type "1" as many time as I wanted to run the macro.
Could it be right that this efficient feature is missing in 5.4.2, or is just me that have ignored some setting?
