Edit large files on disk

When editing large files, the 32 bit limit of 2 GB becomes a problem.
In addition, loading of a large file takes a lot of time.
Editing of very large files > 2GB seems to be impossible (Windows Vista 64 Bit Ultimate, 8 GB Ram, Intel E8600 3.3 GHz).
It would be a really useful feature to load a large file (e.g. 10 MB+) only partially to memory. This would preserve memory and speed up loading.
