There seems to be a bug in version 5.4

The tools in the tool bar show up twice. Once in a text form "Tool1" "Tool2" etc. and then again with the icon of the hammer

In the text form,the mouseover always shows the name of the first tool for each of them regardless of their number .

Any way to fix this ?

You can see there is a mixture of text and icons for the tools as well a the problem where tools are out of numbered order or listed twice.

tried upgrading to 5.4.2 but problem still persists.

FWIW I am running 5.4.2 on XP sp3 and do not have the same issue; my toolbar is fine.

thanks for the reply - if there's any suggestions on how to resolve the problem I'm open to hear them.

I started with 5.4. went to 5.4.1 then to 5.4.2 and there's been no change so I can only presume it's buried in there somewhere.

I don't seem to be alone. I saw another post with similar problems described.

Could there be an issue with your config.xml file?

I've seen a number of posts that recommend deleting/renaming this file then allowing Textpad to rebuild it. I'm no expert but you might search the forum for config.xml and decide for yourself.

I had the same problem with TextPad version 5.4 and I have the same problem still with version 5.4.2.: The tools menu is all right, but the tools toolbar ("the one with the hammers") looks a mess: Some tools are represented by little hammers (as they should), others by longish texts like "Tool 12" (as they should not) and some by both. Regenerating the file config.xml did not help.
