I disabled the "Allow multiple instances to run" option in the preferences, but double-clicking a text file opens another instance of the application, anyway. After a while, I'll have a whole bunch of TextPad windows and have to close them manually.

This never happened under previous versions of Windows. Anyone know what's wrong?

I have the same problem -- I can't get textfiles to all open in one instance of TextPad using Win 7 Pro x64. Is it a permissions/security issue, or related to the 64-bit OS somehow?

If I load TP (with or without loading an initial textfile) and then load the additional files from TP, it's fine -- and drag & drop still works. It seems just to be detection of an existing instance of TP that's the point of failure when doubleclicking subsequent files. Could it be related to the path the system substitutes for %programfiles% with 32-bit apps? "Program Files (x86)"

Love TextPad, BTW -- it's one of a small set of "Swiss Army knife" apps I install first thing when I buy a new machine.

This can happen if you have used the option to replace Notepad on the General Preferences page. Try unchecking that option, and then make the association to .txt files under Configure/Preferences/Associated Files.

That definitely does the trick -- thank you! After confirming it works, I left the file-specific associations and went back to enable Notepad replacement again with no apparent ill effects. Some programs call Notepad directly rather than relying on system associations, so I'm gonna try to keep the replacement option active.
