Problem with BLOCK SELECT MODE

With BLOCK SELECT MODE ticked, I select ONE character and extend that selection to the bottom of my file. I expect the resulting selection to be ONE character wide.

However, the resulting selection frequently expands to MORE THAN ONE character wide.

How do I constrain the width of the resulting selection to ONE character?

HOW do you extend the selection to the bottom of the file?

By using cursor keys or mouse or ...?

I click on SELECT, click on GO TO, type +999999 in the box, tick the EXTEND SELECTION button and click Go To.

Hm.
I would use Ctrl-Shift-End to do that.

At least my first suspision (an unsteady hand when moving mouse) is not the cause ...

I can't reproduce the behaviour - I always get a block selection as wide as the original selection.
