Can English and Japanese versions be installed on same PC?

Post by scottbass »

Hi,

I do the vast bulk of my work in English. However, I've got some data in an application (SAS) which is in Japanese. I run SAS as a tool configured in Textpad. The resultant output file (text) is encoded in Japanese for a few columns. (I'm using Textpad as my IDE, editing programs and reading logs and output files all in the same workspace)

I can't read Japanese, but can tell when the text "looks correct".

I'd like to open the output file in Japanese Textpad to see if the "black boxes" I currently see look correct.

So, my questions:

1) Can English and Japanese Textpad be installed on the same machine?

2) If I install Japanese Textpad, does it blow away my English version?

3) Or, alternatively, can I install it to a different root directory? Are there registry issues involved?

4) To switch between English and Japanese, is it simply a matter of selecting a character set within Textpad, or is it a separate invocation of Textpad? What would be nice is one installation of Textpad with separate language selection as a configuration or dropdown selection.

Thanks,
Scott

If you apply the MS Mincho font with a Japanese script to the Tool Output, under Configure/Preferences/Document Classes, this might achieve the required result.

I hope this helps.
