lost "replace" function - v5.3.1 on Windows 7x64

Post by carloscarroll »

I installed Textpad v5.3.1 on Windows 7 64bit. At first it worked fine. Now I cannot bring up the "replace" window, either from clicking on the dropdown window or by F8. The "search' window works fine. Is some preference file corrupted or other known problem? I find Textpad very useful, but not without the ability to Replace. thanks.

I used XP lots, skipped Vista. But on new laptop (HP nx4515s, 4gb ram, dual core), XP didnt work well, caused me lots of headaches. But windows 7 solved many problems, its quite stable and reliable, runs all programs i used on XP, so i have a positive thinking of it.

The Replace dialog may be opening but opening off-screen so that you cannot see it.

Since you're on Windows 7 this is really easy to fix if that's the case:
  1. Click on the main TextPad window.
  2. Push F8 (or use Search -> Replace in the menus).

You should notice that the main TextPad window is no longer active (the border should change colour). Don't click anything else yet.
  3. Push Win-Left several times until you can see the Replace dialog.

(That is, hold the Windows key and push the left arrow key at the same time. That's a new hotkey in Windows 7 which allows you to easily move the active window and snap it on-screen, even if you can't see it.)
Hope that helps!
