When I have my document selector open next to my editor window, and show full paths is *not* selected (just shows the filename), when moving the mouse over the documents, it brings up a small box showing the full path of each file when hovering the mouse over it.

It is distracting and annoying, and is there a way to turn this off ?

Yes there is
And it can easily be found be searching the excellent Online help of Textpad...

Configure -> Preferences -> View -> Popup names on the document selector
