New Files in a TAB has disappeared

TextPad 5.3 on Windows XP--I was able to open new files in a new tab rather than opening multiple instances of TextPad.
I just wiped my disk and installed Windows 7, and reinstalled TextPad (3.5.1). I can no longer figure out how to open new files in a tab. I have disabled "Allow multiple instances to run". I've searched the HELP and see no reference to Tabs (other than the tab key).
I forgot my license key and am waiting for Support to mail me my original license. Therefore I'm running TP in "demo" mode.
