WildEdit searching in compressed archives

Post by djevanscom »

Hi all.

I have been a Textpad user for years and really love it. So when I needed to bulk edit a few thousand files to remove an error, I went strait to WildEdit, which I had looked at, but never got around to using.

Unfortunately, all of my files are contained in Zip files with only one or 2 files per zip. It is not worth going and unzipping each one extracting them, running WildEdit, and Zipping them back up.

Surely it wouldn't be a huge ask for WildEdit to be able to work on compressed archives? Sure it would run a bit slower, but I can't be the only one who would find this useful.

Cheers

In lieu of WildEdit supporting compressed files, you could try scripting it. It shouldn't be too difficult. WinZip has a free command-line add-on for their GUI tool. It works well. Or you grab a command-line unzip tool (like older versions of pkzip).
