User defined dictionaries

It's unclear how words are being added, to which dictionaries, and in which folders? I read the Help screens, but I may have missed something. Can Helios direct, or help me as to what is wrong in the following scenario?
I selected both US and English spell checks because I edit articles of multiple origins. I also specified a folder named M:\Textpad as the folder to contain the user defined spell check dictionary. This created a file named U4105.TLX.
1. According to the file datestamp, U4105.TLX was last updated on 2009-11-18, and I added words today, on 2009-11-22. When I searched for all the .tlx files, I noticed that ssceam.tlx, in C:\Program Files\TextPad 5\Spelling was the file updated containing my latest additions, intended to be saved in the user defined dictionary U4105.TLX.
What is the logic here? I am thoroughly confused. What am I missing?
