I agree this issue is a huge backwards step from 4.7. I am used to document tabs and cascaded or tiled windows. What a pain to lose this function! :(

As several people have commented previously, this feature of the new user interface is neither desirable nor useful. I strongly doubt that ANY feature can NOT be altered. The REAL question is, can the number and strength of the objections to this change convince you to make the change?

I'm sure that a lot of users would be much happier if you would consider their needs and desires first, instead of pulling a Microsoft and trying to tell them what they need. Please restore the ability to have BOTH the document tabs AND window tiling.

Maybe they will listen if you bold a few more words. Seriously though, what they are saying is that this is a feature of the lasted MDI (multiple Document Interface) in Microsoft's API. Of course it can be changed, but you are talking about them rewriting a significant portion of the MDI themselves. This is most likely prohibitively large, and the cost/benefit ratio is not worth it.

I accept that this feature cannot be changed without altering the underlying Microsoft software, but couldn't the change have been prominently mentioned? I uninstalled and reinstalled various versions of 5.0 five times trying to "fix" this.

Fortunately, it is easily controlled with the "Document Tabs" and "Cascade" buttons that I have added to the menu bar. Still can't figure out why the "Tile" buttons are missing from the custom commands selector.....

To get the Tile buttons onto the standard toolbar:

View - Toolbars - Window
Right-Click on empty space in toolbar area - Customize
Drag and Drop Buttons from Window toolbar to standard toolbar.

To remove Window Toolbar again:
