Double click behaviour
Hello,
has anyone noticed a strange variety in the way double clicking on a word behaves?
I think it should just select the word, nothing extra. but sometimes it includes one space before the word, other times all characters till the beginning of the line are included in the selection.
Is there a way to get by this problem? or is this a bug? that will be addressed in a future release?
Thanks,
Niels van Eck

Re: Double click behaviour
I'm not sure what this option does, but try changing the settings for "Use Microsoft's conventions for mouse click selection." I don't know if that will affect the double click, though. It may just be the click & drag selection behavior.
To answer your question, yes, I've noticed that. I think that what it is is that if you triple click, kinda, it will select the entire line. I like the feature. Textpad rules.

Re: Double click behaviour
I have tried that setting.. but it did not change the 'one word selection' behaviour.
(it is actually used to set selecting a whole line with one or two clicks in the left margin)
So.. textpad people ; ) have we identified a bug here? or is there a logical explanation that we just don't see?
and yes... Textpad rules indeed!
happy editing

Re: Double click behaviour
Yeah, there is an explanation I think. If you double click, it will select a word. If you triple click, it selects the whole line. It's cool!

Re: Double click behaviour
Well.. the problem is.. that if you double click, on a first word of a line, it selects ALL white space till the beginning of the line.. that doesn't really seem consistent with the behaviour when double clicking elsewhere.
What's even more wacky, sometimes it works perfectely, sometimes it doesn't.. that sounds weird to me...

Re: Double click behaviour
That doesn't happen to me. I tried it with the white space as spaces, and also as tabs, and it only selects the word for me. Buy a new computer. ;p

Re: Double click behaviour
I've taken a closer look at it..
it seems to be that it only does it when there's a '.' after the word.
so in this case it selects the word:

word other word
>
in this case it would select all spaces from the line start to word and word
>
word.other word
>
try that

Re: Double click behaviour
Hey, you're right! Wow, nice observation! There may be a reason for that, but I can't figure out what it would be.
