Blinking "Textpad"

I think I may have asked this before, but I have an issue with "Textpad" blinking on an off in the taskbar in Windows whenever the program is open, textpad becomes unresponsive while it's doing this. Only lasts for 10-15 seconds, then program's OK, but then it'll do it again, and again. Driving me nuts. Why would it be doing this?

Please post a screenshot of the settings on Configure/Preferences/Backup.

How many files do you have open when this happens, how many have been modified and how big are they?

Are you working in TextPad when this occurs or is it an issue while (you think) you're in a different window/program? Maybe another window is in the foreground but not active and TextPad is active, getting all the keyboard input that you want to send to a different window. F.e. TextPad would blink if you'd press F3 (to find the next match) and no match is found.

You posted Textpad Window disappearing and re-appearing several times from the Windows Taskbar 2.5+ years ago. However, disappearing and re-appearing from the taskbar is different than a remaining taskbar button that blinks.
