How to Rename a User-Added Document Class

Post by rymanjc »

I could not find a way from within TextPad 9.3.1 to rename a document class I had added. I discovered that the information that defined this class was contained within %APPDATA%\Helios\TextPad\9\ConfigState.xml. I tried editing ConfigState.xml with TextPad itself but the changes never stayed. :( Perhaps this should have been obvious since I was trying to edit something that TextPad was using.

The solution is to edit ConfigState.xml with another text editor, e.g. Notepad.

With TextPad 8.4 I'm able to edit existing class names by
  1. closing all documents (this is hinted),
  2. selecting the list item, and then
  3. just typing the letter keys.
This is not directly written there and also the help under How To ... > Customize Settings > Document Classes (the "Help" button directly takes you to this) only explains how to add or remove one. But the "Type a new class name in the empty box" part also fits for existing items.
