Not opening "current" folder in 9.2

Post by AndyH »

Apologies if this is in the configuration. I have looked for a similar problem in the forum but haven't been able to find, it so here goes:

Long-time user of TextPad, I have not been on the forums much. I have just upgraded to 9.2 from 8. I am using a lot of server VMs. Normally TextPad will open the same folder if you select a file within that older, now it is defaulting to the desktop in Win 11. This means I am having to got through the folder tree every time which is time-consuming> Does anybody know of why this is happening or a possible workaround?

Whilst I am on: Is there a way to change the background colour of found searches in TextPad, I find it really difficult to find?

Thanks in advance

Probably haven't described this too well. I have about 14 network locations mapped. When I open a file on a server, the location Remains as "Desktop" in the open file dialogue, while the files shown are those of the network folder.

Have you checked "Working folder follows active document" on Configure » Preferences » General?

If that doesn't help, try checking "Use the standard file open dialog box" on Configure » Preferences » File.

The Search Results colours can be changed in its document class: Configure » Preferences » Document Classes » Search Results » Colors.

Yes this is checked thanks. I saw this earlier and unchecked and then checked it again after applying to see if could force it.

Thanks for the search colours info...

I got to the point where I am considering reverting to to textpad 8. But I think I have a workaround

I don't know if TextPad 9 doesn't like network locations. every time I open a file or a folder it takes ages. A lot of my work is on servers, I am currently get 45Mb/11Mb via broadband, but every time I open a file it is taking ages.

The name of this post is probably confusing things, When I navigate to a network location, in all previous versions of TextPad, when I open a file on a server via remote location, I would see the path to the server. Now I just see "Desktop" wherever I start navigating (See grab).

I have a good workaround which solves both issues in one:

Configure->Preferences->File-> Use the standard file open dialogue and tick this. Every thing sped up dramatically and I can see the correct folder names in the open dialogues.

On my other issue changing the colour of text located during a search:
When I search through "Find" or "Search Incrementally" the highlight when it finds a word is really hard to see, I tried changing background colour as instructed above but it didn't allow me to make it more obvious. In the default display it is a faint dotted line. I have been using TextPad for about (it seems 20+) years, but have always found this a bother, can you help people with older eyes and suggest away of making it something more visible than dotted lines and almost transparent yellow?

I misunderstood what you meant by search results colour. The highlighting colours for selected text can be changed for "Selected text" and "Selected text (no focus)" for the appropriate document class.
