Let's say I have two documents open in TextPad in two separate tabs. I want to move one of the document tabs to a new TextPad window. The purpose is to see the two documents side by side on the two monitors I use.
I tried dragging one of the document tabs to the second monitor but nothing happened. I right-clicked on the document tab to see if it will give a menu choice to open the tab in a new window, but none there.
I looked in the Configure > Preferences, but could not spot any option. So, how do I open a document tab in a new window of TextPad?
Thanks.

You can't. And you can't do that with most other software, too - have you ever tried doing that with a sheet in Excel or a tab in the Task Manager? The web browsers Firefox and Chrome, as well as the editor Notepad++ are exceptions - they have this as a feature. It's nothing you can expect everywhere just because you have tabs - every program has to support this on its own.
Re: How to open a document tab in a new window?
Of course, I can open different Excel files in different windows of Excel. I can do that with Word, too. But sadly, I am not able to do that in Textpad. Any time I want to open a text file in Textpad, it will open only as a tab in the same Textpad window. If that cannot be changed, then it is a poor choice of features by the software's developer.
I did discover that I can drag a tab within the same Textpad window and drop it, which opens the document tab to a side-by-side view with the other document tabs in the same Textpad window.
And about multiple windows of Textpad, I could launch Textpad in a second window when it is already open in another window. I could then open other text files in the second Textpad window.

Re: How to open a document tab in a new window?
Are the documents too different (e.g in different languages) for the Compare Files command to be of any use?
When I want to open the same document in another application, I right click its tab, choose Copy File Name and paste that into the other application's Open File dialog box. If the other application is another instance of TextPad, I use the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+O to bring up its Quick Open dialog box.
We'll consider implementing a "Move to new instance" command in a future release. I can see the benefit with multiple monitors.

That will be helpful. We'll consider implementing a "Move to new instance" command in a future release. I can see the benefit with multiple monitors.
