Search issue

Post by gcotterl »

Why does "REPLACE ALL" and "FIND ALL", change only ONE occurrence of the "FIND WHAT:" search criteria?

To change ALL occurrences, I have to do "EDIT/SELECT ALL" BEFORE doing "REPLACE ALL" and "FIND ALL".

I'm using Textpad version 8.9.0

...or unselect any text before starting the search/replace dialog. How about you pay attention to which radiobutton of the "Scope" group has been chosen by TextPad? I'm quite sure that's what changes without knowledge.

Oh, and you don't have to the long way to click on "Edit" and then "Select all" - just hitting CTRL+A on the keyboard should work much faster. To unselect just use one of the arror keys (using the mouse to click anywhere into the document still is somewhat dangerous when you're prone to not be precise, as then just a tiny drag will make a new selection).

The Scope group has 3 buttons:

* Active Document - to Search in current document only.
* Selected Text - Search in currently selected text in current document.
* All Documents - Search in all text in all open documents.

Active Document is ticked.

"Replace All" is supposed to replace ALL occurrences of the search text in the Active (i.e., current) document only. But it's replacing only the 1st occurrence unless I Select all first.

In the toolbar (displayed across the top of the main window, below the menu bar) the Word Wrap icon is Enabled.

The cursor is at the beginning of the top line of the document. (But should its location matter if "Find ALL" or "Replace ALL" is executed?)

The "Wrap searches" box in the "Find" dialog in NOT ticked.

BTW: The "Replace" dialog does NOT have the "Wrap searches" box.
