Vertical scribe lines for document class

I work a lot with files that require data to be aligned in specific columns (Nastran bulk data files for those who care). It would be really convenient to have faint vertical lines between specific columns running the full height of the editor frame...possibly a thin light gray or user defined line color/weight. I'm thinking this would be defined similar to tab stops for each document class.
