"Program not responding" error upon saving new fil

I've been using Textpad for 10 years. After I upgraded to version 6 some years ago, a bug appeared: after opening a new file and saving it, Textpad would crash and Windows would display "program not responding". This never happened after editing an existing file. So I took to using Notepad++ to open new files.

I have now upgraded to version 8, and the same problem *sometimes* occurs. Usually the new file is saved, but *sometimes* I get the "not responding" message and Windows asks me the usual "do you want to close the program" question. Again editing this newly existing file never results in the crash.
