WildEdit License Problem

Win8.1 64it, up to date

Ok... I have;

purchased a WildEdit license
received the license code
downloaded the current WildEdit 64bit version
Installed it as admin in a nonadmin user login session
copied the entire license code including begin and end lines
started wildedit
pasted the code into "enter license code" (several times, several restarts)
gotten the "thank you"
every time I attempt to open the file I need to edit I get your
"cannot open files > 64kb"

I then switched to the admin login and pasted the license code into WildEdit...
...things got worse... the message was "cannot open files > 10kb" <sigh>

I have been a registered user of Textpad since the 90's

I tinkered around with wildedit shortly after it was released (over a decade ago???) and had no problems but have not needed it until now.

pretty frustrated at the moment... I had set aside time today for this project so, I am now at a standstill.
