Backing up TextPad settings

Post by CWBillow »

I downloaded backuptextpadsettings.zip to try to back up my TextPad settings, but when I ran it, it seems that all the files were empty.

Setup.rtpt showed

MakeCAB Report: Sun Dec 06 12:46:11 2015

Total files: 0
Bytes before: 0
Bytes after: 0
After/Before: 0.00% compression
Time: 0.02 seconds ( 0 hr 0 min 0.02 sec)
Throughput: 0.00 Kb/second

I this because I don't have TextPad installed in the default folder?

This particular utility backs up settings that are stored in the Registry, however, settings for the current versions of TextPad are no longer stored there. They are now saved to two xml files, GUIState.xml and ConfigState.xml, which are normally located in:

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Helios\TextPad\Version No 6,7 or 8

I hope this helps.

I am about to upgrade from version 7 to version 8. What do I need to do to ensure that all my settings including clip library items, macros, tollbar macros, document classes and syntax definitions which I use, are transferred to version 8?

Installing TextPad 8 will leave version 7 in situ. The first time it is run, it will copy the files in this folder:

C:\Users\<login name>\AppData\Roaming\Helios\TextPad\7

That should include all the files you mentioned.

Associated Files

Is there an equally handy way of moving ASSOCIATIONS; i.e., those extensions entered into TextPad, Configure, Preferences, Associated Files?
