(Beginner) How do I setup compile and run tools in TextPad

Hi. I'm a beginning programmer with Java. At the beginning of the course, I had someone install Java and TextPad to compile and run Java code on my laptop. Middle of the year, though, it breaks (as in the screen disconnected physically) and I get a new laptop (current one with Windows 8). Now, I tried installing Java and TextPad 6, though I don't know what to do in the Preferences to add the compiling and running tools. Someone please tell me how to do it. Be very specific and beginner-friendly, as I've only taken one semester of APCompSci so far, and I need very specific, concise, and beginner-friendly instructions. Thank you.
