WordStar Command Set for TextPad?

Hi! I'm an old guy who still runs an old MS-DOS text editor (TSE 2.5) that uses that old WordStar keyboard shortcut command set.

After all these years of using those commands, they are second nature to me, so I'm always on the lookout for a Windows Notepad replacement that incorporates that WS command set.

Do any of you reading this know if the current version of TextPad offers the option of installing the WordStar keyboard shortcuts?

Yes, Wordstar is one of the built-in keystroke compatibilities.

I'm still running Windows XP on a couple of hand-me-down PCs, and a hand-me-down laptop.

Is there an older version of TextPad that would work better with XP than the latest version of TextPad?

All I'm looking for is a small, fast, simple Windows text editor that incorporates the WordStar command set. Nothing fancy; no bells or whistles.

You can download version 4.7.3 here: http://www.textpad.com/download/textpad45.html

It's probably the version that works best with XP.

Huh? I've been using Textpad for years and never knew this.

Where in the Preferences can this be selected?

portal, may I suggest you turn OFF the Disable BBCode in this post option when you write a post as your replies aren't formatted correctly.

Hi again!

I just downloaded and installed TextPad 4.7.3 and switched to the WordStar command set.

But, sadly, one of my favorite WordStar commands, Ctrl+N is not supported:

The ^N command (which in Windows programs opens a new file).

In WordStar ^N inserted a new blank line, below the line containing the cursor.

Any ideas on how I could modify TextPad 4 to get this ^N command?

record a macro that does what you want, then assign Ctrl-N to that macro.
