ATTENTION HELIOS: My plan to resurrect TextPad

Post by type7c »

Helios - TextPad seems to be dieing. 6.1.3 is a mess, still has not been fixed, and this is even more painful for TextPad users seeing as how we only get an update every few years anymore.

Here is my suggested plan to resurrect TextPad:

1. Fix the bugs and problems is 6.x, finalize it, and don't add any more features.

2. Start 7.x and add new features. Some specific suggestions:

a) collapsing code blocks
b) give us a way to to easily import/export configuration settings
c) similarly, give us an easy way to trade color schemes
d) build a standarized library of sytax highlighting definitions that are up-to-date and complete
e) build a standarized set of nice colors schemes
f) other features that people are begging for but not listed here
g) see Notepad++ and Sublime Edit for more ideas

3. Charge $50 for this new TextPad 7 version only after it is rock-solid. Give an upgrade discount to existing license holders - say $25 or $30 or something. Charge for this editor in order to make it worth your while to invest the time and effort to get us a revived TextPad. I can say that I would gladly pay for a revived and solid TextPad product, and I think others would too. I listed the price in USD because I'm in the USA. You may end up with a different (higher) USD price because of your own expectations due to your local currency. This is fine, I am just trying to give you a general feeling for my personal comfort level with the price point.

If you don't do something like this I think TextPad will die. If you don't care then that's a different story. Thanks for reading this.

And I just wanted to add this: I love TextPad!!!!!
