missing HELP files e.g. TIP of the DAY

Post by j pinches »

i use TP 5.2.0 32-bit on a laptop with WINDOWS XP HOME Ed SP3

i have some irritating problems e.g. TIP OF THE DAY does not work. i can ignore these irritants but prefer not to

i suppose the simplest tho' most tedious solution is to uninstall then re-install TP. so could yourselves read the below & advise whether improvements can be made before i do anything. i know little of computers & therefore depend on the expertise & advice of others hence my post. please note i copied some instructions from existing posts e.g. HELIOS in this forum

to do so i should:
1. Note the license!
2. Manually delete all the file associations in TP under Configure/Preferences/Associated Files
3. Exit from TP

then in the Start menu choose:
1. Control panel
2. Add or Remove Programs
3. Select TextPad
4. Click on Remove

still in the Start menu choose:
1. Run
2. Type "REGEDIT.EXE" and click OK
3. From the Registry editor Edit menu select "Find"
4. Type "textpad" in the "Find what" section
4. Check the options "Keys, Values and Data"
5. Click "Find Next" and Delete, until all references have been deleted

REboot

re-INSTALL: DOWNLOAD

i await your comments

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution to your problem. Perhaps someone else can help.

However, since you say that you know little of computers, I should give you this piece of advice: Do not run regedit; do not edit the registry. If you do you may wreck some program installations or even the installation of Windows itself.

I'll second that advice. If you must do a re-install, but leave the registry. Maybe there's a way we can help you see the help files. Can you talk through what you're doing and what you see?
