Every now and then while I'm in TextPad (v5.4.2 Windows 7 Pro, 64bit), my fingers get klutzy aand the mouse pointer becomes a vertical arrow (*not* a double vertical arrow). Text in the Textpad editor pane is selected as I move the pointer without pressing any buttons. Closing and re-opening TextPad puts the pointer behavior back to normal.
The are is not double-headed, has a black outline and is white-filled.
I suspect I've invoked a feature of TextPad that I've not explored before, but, dang it, I cannot find "vertical arrow" in the Help or in this forum.
I obviously cannot reproduce the behavior.
adTHANKSvance for any advice about what the heck it is,

You accidentally pressed Ctrl+Q followed by S and discovered the little-known "selection mode", which allows you to select text by simply moving the cursor. Just press Esc to get out of it.
If you want to disable it for good:
1. Click Configure > Preferences > Keyboard.
2. In Categories, click Selection.
3. In Commands, click SelectBeginStream.
4. In Current keys, click Ctrl+Q, S.
5. Click Remove.
6. Click Apply.
