Save_as dialog broken in TextPad v5.4 on Vista?

Post by Simon Tortike »

I am running Vista and installed TextPad v5.4 yesterday. My save-as dialog no longer functions properly - the bounding box can be resized but the contents are not, so buttons and filenames can be lost. The resizer triangle on the bottom right of the dialog does not usually sit correctly when it is first opened, either.

I have rebooted since this problem manifested itself, but with no improvement.

This seems to be a bug with the way TextPad handles the Open and Save As dialogs in Vista. The dialogs don't resize their contents unless they're closed and reopened.

To fix the problem you're experiencing, click the Browse Folders button at the bottom left of the dialog, then close the dialog and reopen it. And don't click the Hide Folders button!

I've found that these dialogs exhibit this problem:
  • File -> Open
  • File -> Save As
  • Edit -> Insert -> Files
But these ones seem to work correctly:
  • File -> Workspace -> Open
  • File -> Workspace -> Save As
  • File -> Manage Files -> Browse
  • Tools -> Compare Files -> ...
  • Tools -> Run -> Browse
  • Configure -> Preferences -> Tools -> Add -> Program

This bug has not been fixed in 5.4.2. Below are screenshots from Vista SP2 with Windows Aero UI:

Invoke the Open dialog, then resize it:

Invoke the Save As dialog, then click Hide Folders:

Re-open the Save As dialog, then click Browse Folders:

I'm seeing the same issue in Windows Vista with version 6.1.3

Is there any fix to this?

No, they've known about this for two years and obviously aren't interested in fixing it.
