If I add a Save As tool to the standard toolbar, it fails to appear after restarting TP.
Same problem if I create a custom toolbar, and place the Save As tool there. In fact, even this custom toolbar itself is lost after restarting.
Is there a workaround for this? I searched the forums, and there were a few reports of this problem in version 5.03 .. but I couldn't find anything like a solution/workaround.
Toolbar customisations are not saved in 5.20

Thanks for the response. But no, i was only running one instance.
I don't know if this is relevant, but the 5.20 install was made over an installation of 4.73 (which transition worked very smoothly by the way, thank you for preserving all my settings
)
Where would the toolbar customisations be stored? If it's the registry, then i'm happy to go and make the changes there directly if you can tell me where. If it's in a file somewhere, then maybe it's an access problem that i can look at.
I thought they might be stored in a workspace, but even if i apply the customisations with no worskpace loaded, they are lost when TP is restarted. Then i thought it might just be that TP forgets to load it, but every time i create a new custom toolbar, it happily creates Custom 1, which suggests that it wasn't saved the previous time.
Finally, I'm running on Win2K Pro

Please try renaming the file config.xml, which you will find at the following location, and then try starting up TextPad and customizing the toolbar . Exit from TextPad before renaming the file.
C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Helios\TextPad\5.0
I hope this helps.

Thanks - I'll give that a try. But first, it seems the shell folders are controlled by site policy. The folders are listed under the following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
Can you please tell me which of the above keys (and which value under the key) corresponds with the folder you have indicated in your example?
TIA

Yay - Success!
Ok, here's what I did..
Using ProcessMonitor from Sysinternals, I listened in to what TP was doing while starting up. In the results, i searched for config.xml that you mentioned, and discovered that instead of looking for it in a folder called..
).
But this location didn't exist - and i had to manually create the final three folders "Helios\TextPad\5.0\". Once created, i then started TP up again, and created my customised toolbar and tools. And when restarting TP once more, everything was right where it should have been!
Thanks for the great help and speedy responses, helios! Hope this helps the next guy whose "network managers" are more like "network damagers"

Just a thought... any chance that you could parameterise this location, under Configure \ Preferences \ Folders ??? It would make it easier for folks like me to backup all my TP settings.[/quote]
