Please, please, please create a Preference option whereby I can make "word wrap" always on.

No enhancement needed, this already exists.
From Main Menu: Configure/Preferences/Document Classes.
Click on "+" to open the Class(es) to have Word Wrap.
Put a checkmark in the box to Word Wrap long lines.
Class changes will not always be saved if other documents are open, so before making the change, do this:
Close all other instances of TextPad.
Close all documents, including any blank document you may have.
Make the Changes as needed.
OK/Apply your way back to beginning.
Exit TextPad, and open it again.
Your changes to Class should be there.
