Bug Report: Cursor movement down lines at end of line

Post by mweinberger »

Hi,

The previous version (4.73?) worked like a champ, but this new version (5.03) has a very annoying bug. If I have multiple lines of various lengths and the cursor is at the end of a line and I move downward, this new version has the tendancy to move cursor to home position (1,1) totally on its own. It seems to do with the fact of going up or down to the next line, when the next line has fewer characters than the current line. The previous version, as I said, worked fine in this respect, but not this version.

Please fix. Having to hit home, then down/up arrow, then end to go to the end of each line really sucks.

Thanks,

Sarah Marci Weinberger

This bug has been reported before in the Forum and will be fixed in the next maintenance release.

Good luck getting an answer to that one! Think yourself lucky that Helios condescended to reply at all!

You obviously haven't been around this Forum for long, or you would already know about Helios's mindless refusal to engage with their user base on such trivial matters as release dates, enhancements being worked on, bug fixes, etc., etc., etc.

Cheers,

oh. bummer!

Oh well, I guess it's off to a different editor for me the rest of the coders at work people then.

Cheers Dak.

Still waiting

Post by sskaggs »

The issue of pressing END on long lines is still driving me nuts. Is anyone willing to share any information about when the next maintenance release might be available? How about one that fixes just this issue and nothing else? I'd go for just that at this point.

Maybe Helios could give you some more info, but i doubt it. According to info given early in 2007 there should have been several new releases of Textpad in 2007, but that didn't happen. Since 5.03 there have been no info about new releases of textpad and in the past Helios said they don't want to give any promises with a timeframes either. I even got a reply from Helios with a promise of some issues/enhancements that i could expect to be fixed soon which didn't happen and no info of course.

Textpad is a nice editor with some limits and some minor bugs in version 5.03. Either you have to accept those bugs and hope for a new release which might happen or maybe not. It's obvious that the development of textpad is extremely slow or maybe there is no further development. It's hard to tell since there is no info from the develpers. I don't think you can except any useful answer regarding new releases of textpad. You could do like i do and use another editor in addition to textpad where the development is still existing to solve the things textpad cannot do and maybe never will. If there is a bug you find very annoying i don't think waiting for a new version of textpad will do you any good. Then you might have to consider switching to another editor and hopefully you can switch back somewhere in the future if a new version of textpad will ever be released.
