problem opening txt files with textpad from windows explorer: textpad asks me to create directories. Reinstall of Textpad did not help.
The times textpad asks me to conform new directories depents on how deep the file is nested in de directory tree.
When textpad is open and I drag the file into texpad, I have no problem.
Can somebody help me with this problem?

This sounds like a new one to me.....
but, have you checked to make sure you have folders listed in Configure/Preferences/Folders?
You should have valid folders listed for Clip Library through dictionaries. Should also be sure that you have full permissions for the folders that are listed. You at least need to permission to open the folder/files.
-----------
Can you explain more about when the message comes up? You double click, TextPad opens, does the file load at all before the message, or does the message come up after the file loads? Do you have full permissions for the folder where you are double clicking? What program are you using when you double click the file in the folder? Is it a fresh view or does it need to be refreshed? Is it possible the drive letter has changed or a mapping or network connection is broken?
Just looking for more clues about what is happening........

Some updates:
- Folders are listed in Configure/Preferences/Folders
- All permissions are ok
When does the message pops up.
1. Double click on .txt file
2. Textpad opens
3. Textpad message (YES/NO to create file)
4. Textpad is open with a blank file if I clicked No each time the program prompts me
e.g.
I have an file test.txt on my desktop.
When I open this file I get two messages
"Do you want to create c:\documents and settings\user\desktop\AND"
and
"Do you want to create c:\documents and settings\user\desktop\settings\user\desktop\test.txt"
I think that the part in bold is the clue to the solution.
Thanks for the help!

Some comments:
1. It sounds like Windows cannot find this folder:
c:\documents and settings\user\desktop Make sure it exists and that you have full permissions.
2. What program are you first working in? You say you are double clicking on .txt .... What program shows ".txt" that you are clicking on? Are you in Windows Explore? Are you doing a right click on some program? Are you responding to a prompt from a program, if yes, which one?
3. Does it give error messages if you remove checkmark from Configure/Preferences/General: Start with a new document?

Please check if TextPad is associated with the file type, as follows:
In Explorer(My Computer):
From the Tools menu in Explorer choose:
1. Folder options
2. File types
3. Select the file extension from the list
4. If it isn't already associated to TextPad, click on Change and choose TextPad from the list
5. Click OK

Bob,
1. I have full permission, its just an test file on my desktop.
2. No program is open. "Hide extentions for known file types" under folder options is not checked. Thats the reason why I see the txt extention.
I just click on a file on my desktop "test.txt"
3. No error.
Helios,
You asked me this before. From the beginning TextPad is associated to txt-files.
Kind regards
