I have just upgraded to 5.0.3. There are several functions which don't seem to work as well as in 4.7.3:
Toolbar icons: I seem to be missing many standard icons when customising the toolbars. I can't believe, for instance, that I should have the word 'save' instead of the diskette icon, but that's what I've got.
Save/Save As. Clicking Save on a saved file used to bring up the Save As option. No more it seems.
Floating toolbars. I used to be able to float a toolbar up to the window frame. Now it insists on docking. I can work round it by reducing the window, moving up the floating toolbar then maximising the window again, but this is a bit fragile - if I move the toolbar it snaps to docking again.
Window tiling only works if document tabs are not displayed. So at the moment I've got the words 'document tabs' in a toolbar
Split windows still won't scroll in independent halves when split vertically, so there seems little point in having a vertical split function.

It seems like the save button have an icon by default after the installation of textpad, but if you delete and add the save button the icon is gone. It's easy to change the icons using textpad 5.x though. When you customize the toolbar you can rightclick a icon and choose copy, paste, edit, and change button image. Under change button image there is a diskette icon with a blue arrow that you can use and edit to remove the blue arrow and paint the missing black line at the top right. Then it should be like the default diskette icon. You can also copy a diskette icon from another application and paste to the save button in textpad. I agree the icon should have been there by default, but this is a easy workaround.

I agree this is a bit annoying since i used the grayed out save button as well for "save as". Using Textpad 5 i had to add a "save as" button and edit the icon as described above so it's a diskette with a question mark.

Thanks Gan. I hadn't realised that ability to edit the buttons was there. It doesn't seem to be referenced in the help files - althouth I may have missed it.
I guess then it is possible to copy the icons from the default toolbar and paste them into a custom toolbar.
But what a palaver to achieve something that should be there by default.
From the View menu, choose Toolbars/Customize. The Customize Toolbars dialog box is displayed.
Click the Commands tab.
From the list, select one of the toolbars to see the buttons it contains.
To add a button to a toolbar, drag it from the Buttons group on the dialog box to the toolbar.
To remove a button from a toolbar, drag it from the toolbar to the Buttons group on the dialog box.
To insert a separator, drag an adjacent button slightly away from the side you want to insert it, then release the button. Repeat this operation to delete a separator.
Which falls at the first hurdle because there doesn't appear to be a Customize Toolbars dialog box with a Commands tab.
Ah, that's obviously referring to what you can reach from the Add or Remove Buttons drop down on the toolbars themselves. Not very helpful that it's not where help says it is.
And then, it still doesn't tell you about copying/pasting/editing the buttons.
