Column Based Syntax Highlighting

Textpad's syntax highlighing is great for data formats using keywords. When editing some files; however (EDI, RPG), it whould be very helpful to highlight by column number. This could be accomplished by an addition to the .syn file for highlighting by char position:

[Columns 1]
1-5
10-11
[Columns 2]
6-9
12-14

It is not currently possible to build such a syntax definition. This was a request to add columnar highlighting capabilities so I could create such a syntax definition.
