Workspace Selector

Post by smithxxl »

First off, wonderful product... and one of my best purchases I've ever made. Great job.

I tend to open up several groups of files at a time. One group maybe log files. Another group could be a set of source code files. Usually I would open up a new instance of Textpad for each group. I've used the workspaces a little bit, but I had an idea that might utilize it more and help keep multiple Textpads from cluttering up my taskbar.

Could you add a Workspace Selector to which the documents/files for that workspace would be viewable. Much like creating a new document, you create a blank workspace (ex Workspace1). I then could have several items under that workspace unsaved or up to date (ex Document1, readme.txt, install.txt). Then have the ability to open up and existing workspace or create a new one to switch which documents I am looking at. I don't want the documents cleared when switching workspaces, just what is viewable in the Document Selector, Window menu, and Document Tabs.

If I am smoking crack, let me know. lol But I really love Textpad and could see how is would be a very useful addition. Thanks,

Brad Smith

I like this idea. loading workspaces into a selector with their associated files displayed (but not open)

then find/replace could have a few additional properties
"Search in all Open Files"
"Search in all Workspace Files"
"Search in all Open workspaces"
Why yes, I do program in Comic Sans

I can't understand the OP's suggestion (maybe I'm smoking his crack :) but here's mine:

Make Document Selector a tree control, add workspaces. Somehow highlight the current workspace.

Add a "Workspaces" tab right above (or below) the "Documents" tab (optional). Make this switch between workspaces. Add a "Close Workspace" button or a "New Workspace" tab in case someone wants all the files closed...

Maybe add a per-file "save on close/ignore changes on close" option to workspaces.
