Save As in TP 5.0.2
In earlier version of TP (prior to Ver 5), the save icon greys out after you saved a changed document - you used to be able to left click on the greyed out save icon and the "Save As" dialogue box would appear.
I TP ver 5, the save icon never greyed out, in TP 5.0.2 it does but you then cannot click it again to bring up the "Save As" dialogue.
I used this feature often so would like it back.
I am using Win 2000.

When the save button is grayed out in version 4.7.3 it acts like a "save as" button as ACRobin described which i think is a nice feature. I know there are other ways like you describe ben_josephs, but that's not the point here. I got used to this feature and hope it will return in a later 5.x release.
What I can't understand is why Helios changed things like this. Version 4.7.3 was and is a great text editor with a user interface that we have become used to. (Let's face it, we've had a couple of years to get used to it.)
Now they bring out version 5.x, which we all know now is just a beta version, and several things that we've grown accustomed to have been changed, omitted, or made buggy. I have heard that this is supposed to be a complete rewrite, but surely the feature set should not have been changed in the process?
Cheers,
dak

With the 5.0 release, new users were complaining that Save As didn't gray out like in other editors, so we made it do that in 5.02. Now some existing users aren't happy.
The reason for the change is that the toolbar buttons are no longer tri-state, so it's not possible to paint them in a half-grayed state, to indicate different behavior. I hope you can get used to pressing F12 instead.
If anyone can come up with an icon for the Save As command, we'll make it available on the toolbars.

I agree it's a good idea that the save button is grayed out when the document is saved, but would be nice if it was still clickable and act as a "save as" button like in 4.7.3. Since that is not possible it would be nice if the "save as" had an icon when added to the toolbar.
Regarding an icon for the "save as" on the toolbar i have seen some applications that use the same icon for "save as" as they use for "save" except there is a visible question mark on top of the diskette. I think that is pretty intuitively. If possible to upload a small image somewhere i could give some examples from applications i use.

I can't agree more, this is a feature I used all the time in TextPad 4 and wish other apps had it now I'm very disapointed that it's gone.gan wrote:I agree it's a good idea that the save button is grayed out when the document is saved, but would be nice if it was still clickable and act as a "save as" button like in 4.7.3. I don't mind it being grayed out but I'd really like to be able to click it to bring up the save as dialogue like before.
