Can it be made to go away? It interferes with underlines. I have the current line highlighted with very pale yellow and would be happy just with that.

Try this:
1. From the Configure menu choose Preferences
2. + sign next to Document classes
3. + sign next to Default
4. Colors
5. From the "Item menu", click on "Current line"
6. Click on the arrows next to Foreground and Background, and select White as the color
7. Click Apply
8. Next, click on the arrow next to Background, click on Custom and choose the pale yellow color
9. Click on the arrow next to Foreground and choose the dark yellow from the standard colors
9. Click Apply/ OK

How remarkable to find this! I couldn't find it with search, but kept slogging through all the posts and finally came on it. This makes TextPad nearly perfect for my tastes, except the highlight doesn't wrap with the line when the line wraps (which it does in other editors).
