Password Protection?

Post by mhill »

Hi, folks.

I am using a paid version of TextPad and would like to password protect files.

A search of these forums indicates that PGP or Windows features are options (I suppose Steganos LockNote would be an option as well); however, I am also wondering if this capability is available within TextPad itself (or planned for the future)?

Regards,

No, this is not possible in Textpad itself - it wouldn't make any sense.

Textpad is for plain text files - there is no way to store passwords in plain text.

If you look at the files that can be password protected (like Word, Excel, PDF) you will notice that these are not plain text files, but binary files.

Plain text files have no place for storing additional data like formatting stuff, passwords, font selection - they are just plain text.
