Delays opening files through context menu

Post by kAlvaro »

When I select two or more files in Windows explorer, right-click and select "TextPad", the program takes a long time to open them all (about ten seconds per file).

I browsed forums, site FAQs and help files and none of the proposed solutions work for me:

* Disabling virus scanner
* Moving files to local disk
* Closing Microsoft Outlook
* Disabling DDE

It had always worked fine for me until I had to format the computer to reinstall Windows XP Professional.

If I use Process Explorer [1] I see TextPad keeps several registry keys locked until all files are open:

HKCU\Software\Classes\.php
HKCU\Software\Classes\TextPad.php

...and all subkeys.

Any hint?

Have you tried this?

Please implement the following procedure in TextPad:

From the Configure menu choose:

1. Preferences
2. File
3. Under the heading "When files are modified by another process", check "Ignore"
4. Click Apply / OK.

I hope this helps.

Just for the records: downgrading to 4.7.1 fixed the problem for me. You have to uninstall the latest version first, but configuration is not lost.
