Clip Library Enhancement - use files in directory

Post by bleasdell »

The clip library is one of the best features in TP today (IMHO). But it would be far more managable if:

(a) I did not have to modify the contents of a file with each new code snippet (which is what I use it for). I would love to be able to create a .tcl file that simply "pointed" to a folder on my disk. The clip heading could be the name of the folder. The contents of the clip list would be the names of each file in that folder (including the file extension).

(b) I did not have to restart TP every time I made a change to the library. Using (a) above, this means that if/when I add/remove a file from the folder being used in the library the clip list needs to automatically refresh (even if it is the library that is currently displayed).

Do you save your snip, right click inside the clip library window and click 'paste new entry'?

It sounds like you are actually opening the book and modifying the file which is not necessary most of the time.

But either way I do not need to restart TP to have it saved, at worst all you need to do is to select another book, before that new book is opened you will be prompted to save your changes.

Please excuse if this undershoots your problem.
Best Wishes!

I support the idea. Using the directory would be a great timesaver and makes tremendous sense because it would eliminate the problem of redundant maintenance as well as the problem of when the snippets are too large for the clip file.

Crimson editor has this feature. Very nice.

(The poll question however, is too vague. )
